Crowdsourced Routing with TomTom HD Traffic

Ivan Campos | 07.08.08 | Comment?

via GPSTrackLog >> “TomTom’s HD traffic receiver has received FCC approval, so it appears that TomTom will be the second manufacturer to bring crowdsourced traffic to the U.S. There’s no word yet on how soon it will become available, who their carrier will be or what the fee structure will look like.

Like the Dash Express, TomTom’s HD Traffic will use anonymized cell phone data to bring real-time traffic information to your device. According to TomTom, the system, which is currently available only in parts of Europe, will bring you up to five times more traffic data and cover up to ten times more roads than conventional traffic systems.

Unlike the Dash Express, there’s no sign the TomTom HD system will give you any Internet search capabilities though. You can read more on TomTom HD traffic here.”
