Run your web applications on Google’s infrastructure.
Google App Engine enables you to build web applications on the same scalable systems that power Google applications.
No assembly required. Google App Engine provides a fully-integrated application environment. |
It’s easy to scale. Google App Engine makes it easy to build scalable applications that grow from one user to millions of users without infrastructure headaches. |
It’s free to get started. Every Google App Engine application can use up to 500MB of persistent storage and enough bandwidth and CPU for 5 million monthly page views. |

The present invention addresses this and other problems by providing a web site system that includes functionality for searching a repository of information, such as the World Wide Web, by including a search string at the end of a URL without any special formatting. The search string may consist of a single search term, or a plurality of search terms separated by spaces. For example, a user wishing to search for “San Francisco Hotels” may do by simply accessing the URL www.domain_name/San Francisco Hotels, where domain_name is a domain name associated with the web site system. The system may also support the use of Boolean operators and/or other types of operators within the search strings.
In one embodiment, when the system receives a request for a URL of the form www.domain_name/char_string, where char_string is a character string that may include spaces and non-alphabetic characters, the system initially determines whether the character string includes a prefix that identifies the URL as a non-search-request URL. If no such prefix is present, the character string is used in its entirety as a search string to execute a search, and the results of the search are returned to the user. Otherwise, the URL request is processed as a non-search-request URL by, for example, retrieving a static web page or other object from a subdirectory.
Virtually everyone on the Amazon Web Services team has occasion to interact with our developer customers from time to time. This rich source of product feedback gives us a lot of insight into ways that we can do an even better job of meeting their needs as we grow and enhance each of our web services. Some of the developers building applications with Amazon S3 have been asking us about an SLA, or Service Level Agreement. An SLA defines the minimum acceptable level of performance from a service along with some sort of penalty for not meeting expectations. A typical SLA actually defines a performance or reliability boundary which is somewhat lower than what the system is actually designed, built, and expected to deliver.
We know that many of our customers, including a multitude of teams within Amazon, are using S3 in mission-critical ways and need a formal commitment from us in order to make commitments to their own users and customers.
After talking to many developers to make sure that we fully and precisely understood what the term “SLA” meant to them, we were able to start defining one that was appropriate for S3.
I am very happy to announce that, effective October 1, 2007, The Amazon S3 Service Level Agreement is in effect. (more…)
Via Joystiq:: “When my wife and I tied the knot, the most interesting things we received were an embroidered pillow and a Waterford crystal bowl, the former of which now languishes in a moving box while the latter was, interestingly enough, recently shattered during a particularly feverish bout of Wii Sports boxing (sorry mom!).
There is symmetry here, however, that does not go unnoticed, as Amazon currently lists the Wii as the top gift requested by newlyweds registered on the site. Unfortunately, Amazon also notes that the popular console is currently ‘out of stock,’ leaving couples to instead settle for the second most requested gift, Pyrex’s 10-piece food storage set, a poor substitute given its inherent lack of waggle.
Wii accessories, including the remote, nunchuck, and Nyko charging station, were also included in the compilation of popular wedding gifts, though without a system to use them on these sorts of presents just smack of being cruel. Interestingly, both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were also found in the list as well, both products of what we can only assume to be wishful thinking or misaligned priorities — perhaps a bit of both. “
